Arrival in the Andes!

unnamed - Copy

My host family is very welcoming. My host brother picked me up at the airport and drove me to the house in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. We conversed in Spanish through the hour of traffic. It looks a bit like Nairobi here, between the standstill traffic jams, street vendors, and green pastures lined by tall slender Eucalyptus trees.

Finally we arrived. I was too tired to take a lot of pictures, but I snapped a few before passing out for several hours. (It was a tiring red eye flight through Los Angeles.) I semi-consciously ate something involving rice for dinner in what felt like the middle of the night, and woke up to fresh pineapple juice and croissants for breakfast.

My new home for the next four months:

I haven’t taken any scenery shots yet; I figure I’ll save the effort until I’ve overcome the urge to photograph everything. Until then, enjoy my artistic rendering of Quito.

The adventures begin tomorrow!
